designer's own words:

the design is made exclusively for the competition "hands on door handles" organized by designboom and colombo design.
like the visual appeal, the manufacturing process is borrowed from the motorcycle handle. the base is to be cast using brass or aluminium. subsequently the base to be given a polished surface or left with a slightly rough as cast texture. holes to fix on the door and hold the internal lock mechanism may be cast and later reamed and taped or drilled.
the stem of the handle can be manufactured from a stainless steel pipe by bending. the handle, also made of stainless steel can be made by spinning or deep drawing. it may also be made by putting a cap on a steel pipe.a conventional stem modified to sit on this base may also be used.
fitting the parts together can be done in the same manner a bathroom fittings but replacing the valve with a bearing.
three seperate actions are proposed for opening the door (shown in the picture "?2 open"); twisting the handle at the base of the stem, or pulling the stem, or pusing the stem.
the barallel of the lock may be placed in the handle at the end of the stem, operating the bolt via a wire (like a motorcycle throttle) or within an extension of the base.
