spitfire speed shop's projekt K turns BMW K100 into the motorcycle kaiser

spitfire speed shop transforms a BMW K100 motorcycle into a minimalist café racer, called projekt K. the custom build plays on the use of highly technical elements, dark body tones and negative space. the dramatically contrasting result is said to be the kaiser of bikes – bathed entirely in porsche 911-inspired colors.

to create projekt K, spitfire speed shop firstly stripped back the BMW K100 to its solid base. the front end was swapped out for one from a yamaha GSXR1000, which is said to provide superior handling performance. this is coupled with twin disc tokico brakes. a new subframe was introduced for the rear design. here, a YSS adjustable shock was fitted horizontally to the swingarm, where twisting forces are kept away from the dampening to deliver a pushrod-like suspension similar to those used in race cars.

as well as the new rear subframe, the custom design peaks with a cantilevered tail and hand-formed, diamond stitched two-up seat. the motorcycle’s body has been reduced with a small carb setup as opposed to the original’s huge airbox and fuel injection. what is left is the restored factory tank and blacked-out engine, which now contrasts with intake runners, chrome filters and a cut exhaust. the aesthetic is powder coated and then painted in hues of black and gray.
