from lay’s crisps to coca cola bottles, polish artist alicja kozlowska has transformed everyday items into delicately crafted felt sculptures. inspired by consumerism and the ordinary objects that surround her, the aim of kozlowska’s work is to convey that art is contained in even the most mundane of objects.

to make the pieces, kozlowska embroiders various materials together to make near on exact replicas of household objects in a pop art aesthetic. from labels, newspapers, foils, to felt and fabric, the result is curiously tactile sculptures. after creating the pieces, the artist takes them to the public in a series of performances. positioned surreptitiously beside their real-life models, the felt sculptures intend to make consumers rethink these items we take for granted.

‘I would like to popularize and change the perception of fabric, which can also become a work of art. every work requires commitment and patience from me, it is unique, created spontaneously without a specific pattern and in a fit of inspiration. working with material is my passion. I try to make each of my works unique and stimulate the viewer’s imagination,’ says the artist, alicja kozlowska.
