The light parajamo was developed in a time when environmental issues and the finanzial crises are at the center of attention. The progressing global warming demands environmentally friendly thinking and behavior, and also in times of financial insecurity eco-friendly and cost-saving product solutions are required.

The light parajamo was strongly influenced by these topics. The aim was to work with a material, that is already excisting but has become useless for its purpose and to provide it with a new function and therewith save it from its final disposal. At the same time the sustainability of the product was important, so that no classical/standard bulbs were used, but only the most energy-efficient lamps you can find nowadays.

As raw material an old and discharged roundshaped parachute was used. That light-red textile had a diameter of 8 meters and had to be strongly creased to fit into the final shape of the light, measuring 1.5 meters in diameter. After that the parachute was covered with a cylinder made of plain white jersey material.

In an non illuminated condition you have a tight shape and a clear borderline between the white top of the light and the red bordure of the parachute, which pokes out at the lower end of the cylinder.
When the light is switched on, the white cover appears in a red stucture, the clear border blurs and the strict shape disappears. With that you have two totally different visual appearances and moods - an interesting and changing play with shape and colour with the same light. As a lightsource for that effect, several bunched energy-efficient lamps were used.

The light parajamo, with its dimenson and construction, has a more sculptural charakter, so that it needs a generously-sized rooms to support her special decorative effect. It perfectly matches loft apartments, spacious foyers, showrooms and lobbies of business concerns and companies. Here parajamo can create different moods with its possibilities of illumination and adds a very special character to the room.
