casa by olga sjöroos from finland
designer's own words:
Casa (home (Italian), umbrella (japanese) – lampshade.
It is easy to design a new product, but much more challenging to design a product that is also long lasting and ecological. The ceiling / floor lamp Casa was designed from a logistic point of view. This is something designers often forget to consider when designing new products.
The collapsible ceiling / floor lamp Casa is build up from 3 to 8 similar pieces or modules. The size of the lampshade can in this way be easily changed. Casa is easy to maintain as it is made from a machine washable natural fiber fabrics. This logistic lampshade can be folded down into the size of A3 letter even though its diameter can reach 80 cm. Due to its reversible and flexible design, Casa lasts for decades and moves from generation to generation. It doesn’t matter if the technology is changing, you can still use the Casa lampshade with energy-saving LED-bulbs or any other lamp. Our world is already full of “crap” and it is, therefore, our duty as designers to create long lasting ecological products.
