designer's own words:
To define the word collaborate within the poster title is “to work jointly with others or together especially in an intellectual endeavor”. Every day we make choices that impact the health of our planet. While no one person can do it alone, together our individual acts can add up to a big difference. Working together, we can contribute to a cleaner and healthier community-and planet. A person’s environmental action does not need to be difficult or profound. A small amount of encouragement can help change a person’s practices and real life choices. The choices we make everyday regarding personal energy policies, waste practices, and food/water consumption can have a positive or negative impact on the earth.
During my work process I met many people from all over the world and chose 16 who were willing to start their small step for behavior regarding environmental preservation and energy conservation.
I asked people a simple question, “What change in your daily routine can you make to become eco-and energy-friendly”. During asking the question, I had the person to provide a green thumbprint as a symbol of that person’s promise to change.
Here is what they responded.
I will turn off the faucet while I brush my teeth.
I will use Tupperware instead of plastic bags.
I will get a reusable water bottle instead of buying bottled water.
I will only print pages when absolutely necessary.
I will turn off the lights when I leave the room.
I will unplug my chargers and appliances when they are not in use.
I will recycle old batteries instead of throwing them away.
I will ride my bicycle as much as possible.
I will cut my shower time down.
I will start a compost heap for biodegradable trash.
I will support companies that use recyclable materials.
I will buy a virtual eco-gift this Christmas.
I will use non-toxic cleaning products.
I will use cloth towels instead of paper towels.
I will shop at my local farmer's market.
I will shop and thrift or vintage stores
The image of the tree, which is completed using the thumbprints of the 16 people asked, represents the coexistence of nature and the human element on the earth. The tree also represents the promise made by the 16 individuals and their impact on the world.
Indirectly, I chose to emphasize the chemical bond “CO2” in the word “COLLABORATE” to show the integration of the promises people made with reduction of CO2 in our environment.
