THE LAST HOME
Life in death: revitalizing the symbol.
The ashes resulting from cremation are mainly composed by calcium phosphates and secondary minerals. If a biodegradable urn containing these ashes is added with a seed of a vegetable species, which is also favorable to its environment, the result will be a cemetery/forest or a cemetery/garden.
The “last home” thus revitalizes the symbol of life and death. The novel design is to generate a public basic space, in the outskirts of a city, which nurtures the forests. Starting from the conception of a type unit that, given its platform conformation, is protected and distinguished from its surroundings, the model can be reproduced as much as necessary combining materials depending on the region’s specific needs. In cities where urban growth is hard to control cemetery/forests are ideal to curb such growth and to introduce ecological reserves in a way that they are sustainable and sensible with the local environment.
