30 percent of all trash is organic waste. It’s the only kind of waste we can recycle ourselves without a top-down infrastructure. Yet it has little place in our day to day life.

The aim of this project is to design a bin specific for this type of home trash, an object which sits on the kitchen countertop, doesn't use plastic bags, collects our food leftovers and can easily be transported to the composter at the end of the day.

The size and shape of the opening allow plates and other cooking ware to be emptied easily. With the handle on top, YUMI can be comfortably carried outside and fit in the dishwasher for cleaning.

However YUMI is designed not just to be practical, but also as an object that we can emotionally connect to. It's a creature with a sense of humor that eats our leftovers and shows us that dealing with organic waste doesn't need to be boring.
