conceived by italian startup, studio mandato, ‘audiomeccanica’ is a record player that combines the company’s two greatest passions – music and fast cars. taking a real valve from an internal combustion engine, the design uses the car part to form the ‘rotating heart’ of the turntable. fusing two worlds together, the resulting music player evokes an industrial, mechanical aesthetic.

the prototype took over one year of intense work by studio mandato; the belt-driven turntable is made almost entirely of solid aluminum and uses a real valve from a internal combustion engine to spin the record. the double deck increases the isolation from vibration, the electric motor is specially designed to optimize smooth running and the unipivot style arm is suspended by a magnetic system that ensure almost no friction during movements.

as a startup company, studio mandato is currently working to get audiomeccanica into production. combining the joy of playing music records with mechanical parts from a car, the design provides the ideal item for music or car lovers.
