brazilian artists decorate multi-faceted canvases made from LAUFEN ceramic

first unveiled in 2013, LAUFEN’s innovative saphirkeramik material not only offers all the hygienic advantages of traditional bathroom ceramics but is thinner, more defined and extremely robust. it enables new geometric possibilities in design for architects and designers alike, including the ‘sonar‘ and ‘VAL‘ collections. continuing to push boundaries, LAUFEN launched an art project – called ‘impressões’ – as part of design miami/ basel 2019, which combines the material with alternate and inspiring creativity.

at the heart of LAUFEN’s ‘impressões’, their saphirkeramik material has been used to make basic polyhedra forms by maria-carmen perlingeiro. the results are extremely thin objects of flat polygonal surfaces, straight edges and pointed corners. these then offer blank, multi-faceted canvases that aim to promote further conversations and explorations with architecture, art and design.

in cooperation with the basler brasilea foundation, the seraphirkeramik polyhedra objects are decorated with the work of art from five brazilian artists. these include maria-carmen perlingeiro, alex flemming, zezão, christina oiticia and SHN (eduardo saretta, haroldo paranhos and marcelo fazolin). from abstract animals to contemporary colorways, the patterns were then transferred as prints on to the innovative material shapes.
