bridge house by bio-architects hovers over creek in russian forest

the bridge house, by architecture firm bio-architects, is situated atop a small creek amidst the russian forest. hovering over a flowing stream and lush vegetation during the summer, and a frozen riverbed during the winter, the house lives though the seasons and provides ample space for play and sleep over the water.

the russian architects created ‘bridge house’ as the second residence located in the client’s open lot.  this new house features the traditional gable roof found in neighboring houses, including the client’s first house a few meters away. yet the construction of the project over the creek weaving through the site, provided to be an exciting opportunity for the designers.

the project’s pitched roof is lower to those of the surrounding homes because the entire house’s length spans over the river. the residence is supported only in the ends, and floats over the river due to the timber truss that runs along the front and back of the house. the load-bearing structure is completely made of timber, matching the surrounding nature. the house also features glazed facades behind the truss element on each side, bringing in plenty of natural light to the interiors. this makes the inside become a light and airy space, with plenty of sunlight. 

the narrow house includes a living room and kitchen, and two bedrooms with their own bathrooms in the ground floor. there is also a small mezzanine over the kitchen with more sleeping space closer to the sloping ceiling. under the gable roof, there is also an exterior deck area that is covered yet completely exposed. this provides shaded space for summer outdoor living, and a closer connection to the landscape.
