cheng tsung feng constructs the 'sailing castle' pavilion for taiwan lantern festival

artist cheng-tsung feng has conceived ‘sailing castle’ as part of taiwan lantern festival. the pavilion, made from timber construction, symbolizes the image of sailboats gathering at the harbor. by using white sails intertwined within the wooden structure, the artist aims to create a sculptural entity that embodies the enchanting scenery from the donggang coast.

by constructing the ‘sailing castle’ as an attraction for people to visit during the festival, feng depicts the idea of fishermen and boats sailing off and making homeward voyages as people enter the installation. the interaction among people and the pavilion aims to represent the prosperity of the fishery industry, communal unity, expectation, and joy.

the shape of the sailing castle manifests the architectural attributes of local and traditional culture in donggang via its modern art form. in the motif of feng, the sailing castle is endowed with the qualities of temples, churches, and shrines. furthermore, it furnishes audiences with distinctive charismas from day to night. the project will be on display during the 2019 taiwan lantern festival and inviting visitors until march 3rd.
