the egg for „lateral thinkers“! by jan heerlein from germany
designer's own words:
The idea:
In the 16th century they already used to eat on-the-long-side-lying eggs with the support of egg-cups. The mostly unboiled eggs were cracked and the inside was diped by bread stripes. For instance this usage is shown on a painting of Gottfried von Wedig (1583-1641) “Abendliche Mahlzeit”. The porcelain egg-cup of Jan Heerlein (megaron-studio) offers this kind of dish arrangement to the breakfast egg of today. The egg for „lateral thinkers“!
The production:
The vessel for the transverse egg is produced with a 4-part plaster mould (4 parts because of a more safety production for the prototype) and pour-porcelain. The ground of the form is the top of the egg-cup. The top of the form is open so that the bottom of the egg-cup is open too. It is also possible to produce the vessel with a 1-part plaster mould. The shrinking process of the drying porcelain allows the unbaked cup to take it out of the form.
