photographer rasmus hjortshøj has shared his latest images of the copenhill urban mountain — the artificial ski slope and recreational hiking area built on top of a waste management center in denmark. designed by bjarke ingels group (BIG), the project is located ten minutes from central copenhagen and is scheduled to open to the public in may 2019. hjortshøj documented the development during its preview days where the ski slope was open to local residents for the first time.

BIG is currently putting the finishing touches to the copenhill urban mountain ahead of its opening in late spring. the waste-to-energy plant is located in an industrial area that is home to other recreational sporting activities such as cable wakeboarding and go-karting. in addition to skiing and snowboarding, visitors can also use the facilities at copenhill for running, hiking, and climbing. café and rest areas will also be provided for unwinding after the activities. see designboom’s previous coverage of the project here.
