radiance by alberto zamarron from spain
designer's own words:
Radiance is radiator whose shape evolves during its operation due to a fins system made of a Shape Memory Alloy , Ni/Ti alloy or Nitinol.
Shape Memory Alloys are metals that, after being strained, at a certain temperature revert back to their original shape. A change in their crystal structure above their transformation temperature causes them to return to their original shape.
Radiance is composed of a conventional grill system using aluminium profiles. The horizontal profiles have a special section in order to assemble directly the fins easily.
A large number of thin (0.5 mm) fins spaced 4 mm make up the heat output system. These fins are laser cut independently allowing a wide range of shape designs and a “gills” bold look.
When the radiator is off, the fins are folded over, radiator is thinner and external there is a continuous external surface. When the radiator is on, the fins straighten up and a great heat output can be achieved.
