il sublime segno della materia gs tessuti showroom by nicoletta bertolissi from italy
designer's own words:
The “Skins™” modular coverings in DuPont™ Corian® produced by Maia™ of the Gortan Group were used for the first time in the GS Tessuti showroom interior design project in the historic centre of Udine.
The Skins™ coverings have proved to be the ideal implement for what I had in mind: the use of Corian® has made it possible for the floor-to-wall joints to be rounded off by using a thermal-moulding technique, as well as enabling the reproduction on an entire wall of a floral design by Tord Boontje (kind permission of Moroso), 7 x 2.5m in size, imprinted in the material by the use of sublimation.
This particular technology, as used by Maia to obtain a quality sublimation on large-sized solid surfaces, has enabled the design to be printed on modular staves in Corian® which reach a maximum of 760 x 2800mm, maintaining excellent uniform design quality on the entire surface, and extremely sharp precision in the joints (imagine all the fundamental problems that this technique involves, even those concerning the various coefficient of expansion of the sublimation papers and of the Corian®).
The collaboration with Maia™ has also brought about the industrialization and introduction of modular, thermo-moulded, sublimated coverings, which had initially been designed ad hoc for the showroom.
