smooth cooking unit by Hofman Dujardin Architects from netherlands

For this three level apartment the design consist of customized furniture, new floors and a new color scheme. The most important feature of the renovation is the expressive cooking island in the living area. It divides the second floor on a subtle way into a living-and a dining room.

The clients, two expressive vibrant people, wanted to express their way of living throughout this central furniture. The kinky kitchen unit is a very light, white and refreshing object during the day. At knight the warm indirect lightning changes the Corian furniture into a warm, soft en smooth object, giving the living area the atmosphere of a club.

For us as an architect, the quality of the Corian, is the synergy between the sensitivity and the strength of the material. Although the material is very strong and highly resistant, it has a certain smoothness that makes you want to touch it. In the design for the Wilhelminastraat this synergy between hard and soft is expressed throughout the curved corners of the cooking island. The result of the curving is very satisfying, the furniture looks very solid but at the same time it expresses this soft sensitivity.
