whyixd creates 9 rotating light installations in taiwan influenced by the moon's rotations

taipei based studio, whyixd, creates the ‘#define moon_’ project consisting of 9 rotating light installations inspired by the movement of the moon. the design presents different positions of the moon, resulting in a remarkable sensory experience located at the national chiao tung university in hsinchu, taiwan.

the design by whyixd allows the audience to interact with the installation by watching it from different angles. the name of the project, #define moon_, is inspired by the command code ‘#define’ in software language which could be defined by the user’s own word. ‘#define moon_’ is an uncompleted code, the underline which blinks at the end is like waiting for the viewers to define this installation for themselves.

the project uses LEDs and motors to represent the different positions of the moon. the idea of the moon serves as the central theme as it has been frequently documented throughout the history of human civilization. the moon is always a fascinating place, and tracking back to the space race in the 1960’s, landing on the moon symbolizes the most direct human curiosity and desire of exploration of the universe. the ‘#define moon_’ project aims to harness this special quality to create an altogether inviting and interactive light installation.
