designer's own words:
TurtleCart is an affordable and versatile shelter, container, and mode of transportation. The design is based on the idea that a tricycle with a front cart is more compact and stable than a bicycle with trailer, and it allows for one to travel greater distances than with a push-cart. The cart is constructed so that it may be used altogether, as a bicycle, or as a push-cart for indoor or tight spaces. To keep the cost down a standard bicycle is the base of TurtleCart. This paired with an off-the-shelf tent will make the cart more affordable and reduce the amount of fabrication required. TurtleCart’s shelter is connected to the cart for direct access of goods and is designed for use in all weather conditions. For warm weather, only the tent is needed, but in cooler environments an ‘over-tent’ is attached and connected to a steam tunnel or subway exhaust through the ‘nose’ of the shelter. The hot air wraps around the shelter, keeping it warm, and exits on the upper side, safely avoiding the natural ventilation of the tent. When parked with the canopy raised as a flag, TurtleCart is a reminder of the commonness and perseverance of the homeless.
