spychair

spychair by stuart brunton from uk

designer's own words:

The spy chair was developed to create a private escape for teenagers which is non oppressive. I wanted to create the feeling of being invisible with the secure reassurance of being able to see out of the enclosure. Therefore i decided to use a half silver surface finish (2 way mirror) on transparent acrylic with the most efficiently closable form (the sphere). The spy chair is made up by three components, the base, the lid and the seat. all three are fixed at the two hinge points which bear the weight and allows the chair to open into itself. Inside has a large polyurethane foam and plastozone cushion on the base and the rim upholstered in bute fabric (selkirk emerald 228) allowing 360 degree sitting positions. Under the cushion is a storage area for lifestyle accesories and secret possessions. The base has a flat bottom to stop the chair from rolling and a steel structural support to cantilever the weight distribution.
