designer's own words:
Our team consisting of year 12 high school students decided that the place that they all spend the most time at is school. So we decided to try to "de-institutionalise" furniture in various areas of the school and make it a more "teenage friendly" environment. Taking into account various generalised mannerisms of teenagers, the inability to sit up straight, the desire to rock on the two back legs of school chairs and the desparate need to listen to music at all times we have developed three new approaches to school furniture.
Design 1. The Slouch COWch , comprising of a injection moulded ABS low slung Slouch shaped seat, balancing on a stainless steel frame/leg.
Design 2. Reaxation MP3 chair for the quiet areas of the library. This chair would be blowmoulded using Ethylene-Vinyl-Acetate Elastomer to give a glossy apperance while retaining a squishy flexible feel. Articulated antennaes are adjustable head phones which sit just outside the ears for perfect listening pleasure. The jack connections for the MP3 player would be incorporated into the arm rests.
Design 3. The six legged desk chair injection moulded in polypropylene provides every teenager the opportunity to swing safely on their chair reducing potential damage to the chair and the likelyhood of the teenager "going over backwards".
