designer's own words:

The teenage years are filled with youthful energy, playfulness and a new discovery of self. I have used the familiar shapes of the dog and the elephant and integrated them into my design pieces in an attempt to create a new identity for the furniture. I have purposely used animated themes (i.e. the movement of animals and the twirling of the toffee apple) in order to make inanimate furniture more active and alive. In creating new perspectives on furniture, I have ensured that each piece is unique and attractive, melding together certain familiar elements of pop culture which are familiar and attractive but at the same time inviting to touch and interact with. In all pieces designed, I have tried to create a new aesthetic of pop and youthful furniture which deliberately avoids trying to look too “grown-up” but rather celebrates the youthfulness and vibrancy of the teenage years.???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
???Toffee Apple - Chair???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
With reminders of carnivals, teenage dating and sweet treats, this chair uses the themes and images of the toffee apple and manipulates it for furniture. The bottom part of the chair can be swiveled around; much like a child would playfully twirl around a toffee apple in search of a better part. The shape is unique and curvy which is not only appealing to the eye but very user friendly. With rock n roll or pop star upholstery, the chair is able to dramatically change its look. Below the bottom, the centre opening is a functional detail enabling the savvy user to put their latest magazines for convenient storage and easy access.???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?Shadow - Magazine rack???????????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????The dog has been a companion for humans for thousands of years. This particular dog is a celebration of that relationship. The dog magazine rack carries magazines (or newspapers) on its back. I have aimed to put an essence of playfulness into the design which hopefully causes both the environment and the user to interact differently with the piece. By letting the magazine rack take on a new identity, it ensures that the concept is fresh and unique – much like teenagers standing out from the crowd and wanting to be counted.??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????ele - Chair????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
The trademark nose of the elephant is represented in the chair’s front leg. The face and ears form part of the seat back. This newly designed three legged chair is playful but ultimately functional. As a centre piece of furniture for any room, it would definitely stand out as an attractive force.???????
