illustrator reimagines frida kahlo, van gogh, and andy warhol, as modern day hipsters

a couple of years ago, designboom featured the work of tel aviv-based illustrator amit shimoni, who painted portraits of famous world leaders with hipster hairstyles. now, shimoni adds to this ‘hipstory’ series by reimagining the most iconic artists of the past, as try-hard cool kids of today. so, what would frida kahlo, vincent van gogh, salvador dalí, andy warhol, and pablo picasso, look like if they were tattooed, gluten-free vegans who favour a coconut latte over an americano?

dalí is styled with a man bun and van gogh is depicted wearing an airpod. kahlo now sports a nose ring whilst keeping her au natural facial hair, making the perfect role model for the modern day female rebuffing the razor. also standing the test of time is the artist’s flower crown from which newly blonde braided pigtails fall.

of course, tattoos are a must. dali has his famous quote, ‘I don’t do drugs. I am drugs,’ tattooed on his chest, and you can just about see gogh’s chair and the starry night making an appearance beneath his short sleeved shirt, which is printed in the artist’s renowned sunflowers. picasso is similarly dressed in a guernica-embellished shirt. last but not least, warhol wears classic horn-rimmed glasses and is covered in tattoos of his famous friends, including marilyn monroe and jean-michel basquiat.
