BIG ALICE is a 3D full body scanner seeking to revolutionize fashion design & retail

BIG ALICE, by austria-based company 3Dcopysystems, is a six-meter photogrammetric scanning studio that instantly captures the full dimensions of a person,or object, for conversion into 3D data that can be used for AR, VR, and 3D printing. the scanner recently made its way into new york’s FIT (fashion institute of technology) where it is being used to explore the possibilities of bringing an immersive experience to online fashion retail.

students and teachers of FIT have been testing how 3Dcopysystems‘ machine can benefit the future of fashion design and retail. BIG ALICE has a capacity of six people, while it was also featured at the institute’s annual awards gala, where fashion designers and models were able to take high-res photographs. the 3D full body scanner provides fast and accurate scanning, enabling designers to make easy adjustments to their work. its high resolution texture map makes it possible to use for application in film and video games, while it can also be used for medical purposes. the company is currently preparing to launch BIG ALICE in the US, arranging partnerships with various shopping centers and fashion shows.
