Wooly Australian Christmas

Wooly Australian Christmas by Tahl G. Swieca from australia

designer's own words:

Osaka is a beautiful international city which has always reminded me of my home Melbourne, Australia: eclectic, cultured and bisected by a life giving river. In this vein, I present my concept for a spacial design which brings the qualities of a southern hemisphere Christmas to the city of Osaka.

Down in the southern hemisphere, although we experience our Christmas during the summer heat, the ideas and symbols that the holiday season brings stay the same. In order to convey the distinct qualities of an Australian Christmas in Japan, I have used wool as a symbolic motif. Using wool as a medium, a whole visual language can be developed to create an a warm and wholesome Christmas themed spacial design. A spool of wool as a Christmas tree, piles of wool snow, pom poms as ornaments, sheep as reindeer, a wooly Santa and soft roving as tinsel.

The concept ‘Wooly Christmas’ would bring a taste of Australia to Osaka while reinforcing holiday ideas of warmth, craft and family through sensorial analogies found in the softness and versatility of wool.
