Installation Art - The City, The Poet & The Flowers by Tan Chee Hon from malaysia

designer's own words:

Based on the theme of ‘Flower Design’, this installation art is inspired by the famous poet Masaoka Shiki, born in Matsuyama city, renowned for salvaging traditional short form Japanese poetry during the Meiji period. Shiki loved cockscombs flower, during his final years bed-ridden, he would enjoy watching the cockscombs grow & change color. The 15 green pillars depicting cockscomb flower act as the main framework structur6e of the installation in reference towards the poem he wrote “keitō no jūshi-go hon mo arinu beshi”, in translation means “there must be 14, or maybe 15 cockscomb flower blooming”. His distinctive & iconic profile portrait has been simplified to key features made of metal plates with black coating, spaces within his profile will then be enriched with multiple sizes of flower (Tulipa edulis) patterns (suggested to be made of resin for more 3-dimensional effect), depicting Shiki’s ever blooming mind with his soul deep towards Matsuyama city.

Foundation slab of the structure has to be deep & strong, solid cylindrical galvanized poles coated with epoxy paint shall then be bolted onto the slab.

The installation art can be positioned in front of a building wall or on a vantage point with skywards view, where visiting locals or tourists would be able to capture an iconic photo / selfie & share within the realm of social media, the installation would also act as a convenient backdrop for various local events or as a reference of waiting/meeting point
