Ujo vase by george bosnas from greece
designer's own words:
Matsuyama city is famous for the seasonal cherry blossoms and the city’s castle. Matsuyama castle build in 1603 is one of 12 remaining original castles of Japan that retain their original form. Focusing in the idea of ‘lasting’ I wanted to create a vase that helps the flower to last longer. With the geometry of the computers cooling panels and the Japan tradition of pottery and the color of the castle, I designed a vase that has side sections to keep the water a bit cooler. Inspired by a Japanese quote ‘flower in the mirror, moon in the water’ I tried to effective, minimal and simple on my design. Ujo is how local people call their castle because of the black color it has, after being hit by lightings. Ujo vase is a symbolic product that connects Mitsuyama with flowers by its function, its form and color and its concept and name.
