'casa la quinta' perfectly captures the serenity of clear design

this weekend house is located in the mexican town of san miguel de allende, guanajuato. it was designed by pérez palacios of PPAA and alfonso de la concha rojas, while they were working together at DCPP. after visiting the site and realizing its charming nature, the team decided to maintain the identity of the place, and, in doing so, they created a space for the family that would be a true oasis of rest and escape.

the design by pablo pérez palacios and alfonso de la concha rojas is simple but effective. it makes strong gestures, separating spaces in a clear and concise manner, while maintaining trends that carry throughout the structure. the designers created a series of voids which give the project its character, producing different perceptions of scale to the user: a high contrast of light and shadows and spaces of silence and rest.

the house is beautifully photographed by rafael gamo, who perfectly captures the serenity of the weekend retreat. a photogenic german shorthaired pointer leads us through a tour of the home, pausing occasionally to lounge on the plush furniture. 

there’s a familial warmth to the home, and not just from the sleeping grandfather or the baby. there is an air of coziness derived from the architecture, from the shape of the walls, and from the materiality of the furnishings. it is clear that every aspect of this project was carefully planned. the combination of woods and stone tiles all follow a trend and fit into the theme of the building.
