the family of award-winning physicist, stephen hawking, have invited time travelers to his memorial service. hawking died in march at the age of 76 after a long life of changing the way people look at the universe as well as securing a long lasting space in popular culture.

as fans will notice, people applying to attend hawking’s remembrance at westminster abbey on june 15 are able to input a date of birth on the form any time up until 2038. a thousand spaces are available. 

 

in 2009, hawking demonstrated a similar sense of humour when he hosted a champagne party for time travelers to demonstrate time travel is not real. ‘I have experimental evidence that time travel is not possible,’ hawking told reporters at the seattle science festival in 2012. ‘I gave a party for time-travelers, but I didn’t send out the invitations until after the party. I sat there a long time, but no one came.’ our guess is he would expect the same turnout this time.
