located in babahoyo, a young neighborhood with security issues in provincia de los rios, ecuador, ‘the house of prayer’ designed by ecuadorian studio natura futura arquitectura was done with very limited resources collected by locals. the social space for workshops, sustainable practices, and kids spending their spare time is in permanent construction — more adjustments will be made as more funds are collected.

natura futura's 'the house of prayer' has a permeable façade made of wooden mesh

natura futura’s concept carried the idea of creating a completely permeable architecture which would connect the city with the space through the materiality of the building. after demolishing the old house on the site, the architects used its wooden structure for the future project.

the façade is organized into wooden mesh, which allows the sunlight coming in and permeability. exposed simple bold materials such as brick masonry and painted zink contribute to the realization of the idea of blurring the difference between the city and the enclosed space.
