‘scale rule’

surrounding in a net of vibrant color, the ‘scale rule’ installation will be placed at st. james’ churchyard. the pavilion design, supported by AKT II, grimshaw, jewson and WUP doodle, was conceived by 15 and 16 year old students from schools around london. the winning concept, which will be open to the public from may 22 to 24, responds to the theme of sustainability. in doing so, it proposes a metaphor for its use: layers representing past, present and future creates a kaleidoscopic oculus, inviting visitors to direct their eyes up and become more aware of key natural elements around them.

‘pipe line’

the ‘pipe line’, designed by lou corio randall, envisions a new and colorful approach to street furniture. from bike racks to benches, these installations are formed using a single continuous curved line of steel which rises from the ground before re-entering again. in spite of this structure, the strong and stable designs appear playfully to the public as if shaped from balloons.
