this full-scale demolished car is constructed from ghost-like textiles by jannick deslauriers

jannick deslauriers’ textile sculptures highlight the powerful use-value of machinery by creating life-size versions of them using delicate materials. the montreal-based artist sews together yards of silk, aluminium mesh, and tulle, to form a ghost-like presence, as seen in her latest work, sentence, souffle et linceul, a full-scale replica of a demolished car.

the sculpture, on display at art mûr montreal for the artist’s solo exhibition, is joined by two minature sculptures depicting a damaged model train and a segment of broken telephone lines. made from similarly transparent textiles, each piece captures minute details of their subject, demonstrating deslauriers’ meticulous researched of images when creating these sculptures.
