WSP architects' convention and exhibition center in china resembles an ivory carved statuette

china optics valley convention and exhibition center designed by WSP architects is situated in central area of optics valley new city, wuhan, hubei province. the building resembles a traditional chinese statuette carved from ivory.

WSP designed a three-story building, where first and second floors are used for exhibitions, while the third floor is used for conferences. the exhibition part is divided into six big halls which can be used as one whole space.

the unique ivory-like façade is also functional — with the geometric metal truss adopted to the facade, 30% of the air conditioning energy consumption was reduced. the glazed curtain walls with flowing shades and shadows have created natural interconnectivity between interior and exterior of the building through its façades, which deliver great modern and artistic sense of space.

during the day, the whole interior is lit up by natural light from outside, which — apart from the economical energy consumption — adds more breeziness to the space. meanwhile, when it’s dark outside, the shining cube highlights the china’s landmark optics valley.

the design reflects the sense of both technology and modernity of the current era. the application of energy-saving green designs and technologies makes it a dominant public building in the entire optics valley central city.
