reiulf ramstad architects chosen to build tower as part of oslo's fjordporten development

holding off competition from bjarke ingels group and ingenhoven architects, reiulf ramstad architects has been selected to complete a new tower in norway. the project, which was developed in collaboration with C.F. møller architects, will be centrally located adjacent to oslo’s main railway station. the design comprises four main elements: a renovated public square that will serve as a link to the station; a pergola-like structure; a podium containing cultural and conference amenities; and a tower with capacity for hotels and offices.

in june 2017, bane NOR eiendom — a subsidiary of the norwegian state railways — invited four teams to propose plans for the site. the brief called for designs that interacted with their surroundings, while providing good infrastructure for the area’s future development. renderings of reiulf ramstad architects’ winning scheme illustrate a tree-populated tower, which comprises a stacked series of volumes. at its base, a pergola containing a range of public space connects the podium of the high-rise structure to its surroundings.

‘the project’s proposed integration with the station areas and the overall draft of the blueprint will help to further develop oslo S as the country’s largest collective hub, and will offer the travelers great new spatial and qualitative experiences,’ said the competition’s jury. in addition to C.F møller architects, other collaborating firms include bollinger + grohmann, baugrundinstitut franke-meißner, and transsolar climate engineering.
