Newton's Ringo by RIKU MASUDA from japan
designer's own words:
In 17th century, Isaac Newton, a scientist contributing great efforts to development of human culture, advocated the theory of universal gravitation. Then apples, “ringo” in Japanese, are known as the characters of the anecdote about that theory.
“Newton’s Ringo” has three elements.
First one is universal gravitation. The spiral slope is attached on the top of Newton’s Ringo. Visitors are going around the cylindrical central tower like planets going around the sun.
Second one is “Newton’s rings”. By the shape of spiral slope, the pattern like Newton’s rings are visible from the framing plan.
The last one is rotary cutting. I was given the idea of the spiral slope by rotary cutting of apples. Then the cylindrical central tower expresses the core of an apple. The core is as a gathering spot. The distances between one and people coexisting is become uniform by the circle space. Hitting the top of the tower, there is an astronomical observatory surrounded by greenery. Like Isaac Newton. It enables people observing the celestial bodies.
