designers marc trotereau and merel karhof of shadevolume sculpt slowly rotating ‘totems’ of light across the city during london design festival 2017. present at decorex fair and also within the brompton design district, both deform and combine the shapes of classic lampshades as stacked, lightweight lighting installations. the modular-like design encompasses a thin, insignificant skin that, as well as its lightweight quality, ensures that endless myriads of form, colors and size can be created.

during london design festival 2017, the shadevolume ‘totem’ celebrates its flexibility to craft single products as well as large scale bespoke sculptures. at the decorex fair, their exhibition features a 3.5 meter tall centerpiece, which is made from 18 lampshades connected together, with four additional rotating ‘totems’ surrounding it. furthermore, in the brompton design district, a 4.20 meter tall stack of _ and pink colors climbs up the center of an historic victorian wooden staircase. both these projects highlight the flexible combination principle of shadevolume as they tailor many configurations of lampshades to the intended spaces.
