announced last week was the winner of the 2008 international highrise award. foster + partners received the award for their hearst tower building. completed in 2006, the 46 storey hearst headquarters is build on top of an existing art deco building. designed with sustainability in mind the tower consumes less energy, utilizing outside air ventilation up to 75% a year. it was the first building in new york city to achieve a leed (leadership in energy and environmental design) gold rating. when constructed its triangulated structure used 20% less steel than a conventional office tower.
