OMA to construct facebook's willow campus residential village in silicon valley

facebook unveiled their plans to turn a 56-acre plot of land into its own village called ‘the willow campus’ at menlo park in silicon valley. reacting to the shortage of housing in order to cater to its constantly growing team, facebook and OMA new york will collaborate closely to realize 1,500 homes, a grocery store, transit center, hotel, retail opportunities, office buildings and a park.

OMA have only released initial renderings showcasing an open, relaxed community immersed in greenery and activity. the first phase of the expansive village is scheduled to be completed by 2023; the entire village built on the existing campus designed by frank gehry. with the initial investment of $18.5 million already in line, the masterplan will aim to tackle the problems in which employees face including transportation links, grocery shopping and living close to work.

‘housing is also critically important to these efforts. we hope to contribute significantly to the housing supply by building 1,500 units of housing on the campus, 15% of which will be offered at below market rates.’ comments john tenanes, facebook’s vice president of global facilities and real estate. ‘these efforts complement our ongoing work to address the issue, including the catalyst housing fund for affordable housing we established in partnership with community groups to fund affordable housing for our local area.’
