M2FT proposes a vertical multi-faith building in senegal

italian-based architecture firm, M2FT, proposes in their latest project a multi-faith building connecting architecture and religion to the tanaf community in senegal. this reflection on religious architecture provides a neutral and powerful meaning on creating spaces for the divulgation of the precepts.

the height and verticality of the building makes it a prominant landmark

M2FT’s design process considers the context of the project and the sustainable strategies that can implemented. as a result, the thick walls are composed of earth bags, used from the excavation of the plaza. aditionally, the use of local materials such as palm wood trunk for beams and baobab wooden boards for flooring responds to the demands of an ecological building.

besides being a multi-faith building, the project offers the possiblilty of local assemblies and public performances

with the intention of being the center of the tanaf community, the building is suitable for different purposes. the prayer space, the catalyst centre of the project, is elevated from the street level, enhancing the sense of ascent. the project is not only intended to relate the community to their belief, but also, create a space open for recreational activities such as markets and public shows.
