mjolk architekti adds a chicago flair to restaurant in liberec

inside an art deco building dating back to the 19th century, mjölk architekti‘s chicago grill is a newly refurbished restaurant in liberec, which attempts to bring the atmosphere of a typical american pub to the czech republic.

‘we decided to preserve all plaster decoration and window details only we unified them with single color. to accentuate this original design we have chosen raw materials to build the pub.’

completed by mjolk architekti, the client requested for the ex-piano showroom to be turned into a popular restaurant where the interior would preserve the quality and charm of the origanal space. the material choice was the main element used in the project to instill the ‘chicago’ feeling. the bare concrete floors, along with corrugated walls, black basalt bricks decorated with colored metal blinds are materials that give the space an industrial character. in addition, three giant lamps made from fiberglass suspend from the high ceilings due to its unique quality of light distribution.

to accentuate this original interior, raw and exposed materials were chosen

the space was originally used as a showroom for pianos from a piano factory near liberec
