architecture and design studio bureau A has presented its recycled foam collection for swissnex during the ‘switzerland at pier 17’ grand opening in san francisco. between the 24- 25th of september 2016, the event celebrated the rebirth of the historic pier which is now home to the interdisciplinary initiative swissnex — a global network aiming to connect professionals and creative in switzerland and north america.

from furniture sculptures to basic figures, bureau A has assembled its foam creations for swissnex in a great variety of ways to evolve during the opening weekend and month-long exhibition. ‘here we are in san francisco, in 2016, a city not bound by strict code but rather […] which desires constant change and progress. switzerland at pier 17 represents this desire: a constant search for evolution […] and the unknown. for the opening, the space will be transformed into a landscape of basic shapes, overtaking the gallery completely to host a variety of dynamic and informal exchanges. no stiffness exists here’.

the core value for swissnex is to ‘bridge the gap’ between both continents through innovation, science, arts and education. with that in mind, the collection should be perceived as an uninterrupted and flowing language of connection. ‘no stiffness exists here. the US west coast is meeting switzerland, everything is soft, welcoming, and can be used informally’, states the studio.
