studio etienne bas converts garage into all-white patisserie in beirut

a space that was previously occupied by a private parking garage has been converted into a shiny pastry shop in beirut, lebanon. named ‘des choux et des idees’, the petite bakery draws upon combining retail and street to create a distinctive experience despite it’s compact floor plan of only 20 sqm. from the outside, the focus lies in the central glass display that serves as the fridge, the cashier and storage space.

transformed by the architects at studio etienne bas, the monochromatic space, brings together different textures and materials that are chosen in white. circulation revolves around the glass display units where above, hangs what the architects call ‘the urban mirrors’, this is used reflect the delicate pastries towards the street and attract the gazes of passersby. LED white lights illuminate the contemporary space coupled with the mirrors capability to tilt and change position based on the patisserie’s opening hours.
