the capital of ecuador –quito– is undergoing an urban change with the introduction of new hotels, residential towers and developments in the city center. this includes the YOO quito project whose architecture is the collaboration between arquitectónica, Uribe & Schwarzkopf and Wanders & YOO. the ‘OH quito residences’ is set to be located on the same axis as YOO quito and the building will feature an architectural design also by arquitectónica. envisioned as an ‘urban sculpture’, the 19-storey slender residential tower will have an interior by dutch designer marcel wanders

marcel wanders‘ vision for the interior is a nod to ecuadorian flora and fauna that has unfolded into verdant spaces designed to be lived. the concept also derives from the basic fundamental elements; earth, air and fire. this will be captured in the earth tones used, natural light, sensations of serenity and interior details displaying crafts, patterns and colors. once completed, the residential OH tower will a place to enjoy aesthetic and functional pleasures, or as wanders describes it, ‘create an environment of love, living with passion and making our most exciting dreams come true.’ in addition to using natural, low ecological-impact materials, wanders will develop ways to create smarter living spaces. each apartment is designed to minimize solar impact. light and movement sensors were installed for energy efficiency, while green terraces in outside areas minimize construction’s impact and transparent glass serves to optimize lighting.

wanders & YOO have created three design palettes that reflect a distinct look and mood through a selection of
textures, materials and finishes

from the architectural perspective, the future of quito is being transformed by private promoters uribe & schwarzkopf, who will be developing the avant-garde projects to hopefully create an adjoining contemporary counterpart to the historic center of quito. the shifted levels produce a movement that undulates up towards the sky, giving a different character in comparison to all the schemes built up in this central area of the city.
