new bamboo: contemporary japanese masters is the world’s first exhibition exclusively devoted to celebrating japanese bamboo as a sculptural medium. on show are 23 innovators, old and young, that practice the centuries-old basketry technique and who look for new opportunities in which to apply it in contemporary, sculptural forms. a total of 90 works by practicing japanese bamboo artists are on display, ranging from computer-designed pieces, twisted and sexually charged sculptures, to more traditional pieces, all which demonstrate the skill required to work in this medium.
