space encounters' mellow-yellow healthcare centre revives industrial hub in amsterdam

located in the northern part of amsterdam, buiksloterham was one of the most polluting industrial areas of the city. today, with dutch studio space encounters, it is being transformed into a vibrant and sustainable part of town for living and working activities. although a permanent healthcare centre is being planned, the client recognizes the need for a temporary one in the transitionary period — from a desolate location to a bustling district.

buiksloterham had one of the most polluting industries of the city

inside the containers, space encounters has planned several patient rooms with a physiotherapy room and a small lab. the exterior severely contrasts its bland surroundings, with its bright colour and alienating figure — while core is carefully hidden from the visitor. using a mellow yellow as the façade color, one gets the impression of health and vigour radiating from the building. in this way, by using minimal resources, going to the doctor becomes a contemplative journey.

the facility has several patient rooms with a physiotherapy area and small lab 

the temporary healthcare secures and conceils twelve prefabricated container units of 215 square meters. its peculiar shape neatly surrounds them with an entrance area, garden and breakout space. this also has the added effect of preserving patient privacy and functions as anti-theft protection.
