mountain buggy unirider reduces children's stroller into a unicycle

the mountain buggy unirider is similar to a balance bicycle / tricylce with a push bar.  the part toy, part stroller, is designed to shuttle around children from 2 to 5 years old (up to 55 lbs) around in a fun way, and let’s them experience riding that develops balance, stability, and confidence, while having fun.

the mountain buggy ‘unirider’ is a fun alternative for little ones when out and about; it provides a sense of freedom for growing toddlers, while still keeping them at your fingertips. it features a single 12 inch, all-terrain tire that can conquer miniature mountains, plus a seat with multiple foot positions so they can sit comfortably as they grow, and a built-in handle strap for transportation.

created in collaboration with a father from the UK, simon langham came up with the idea of taking the ‘meltdown’ toddler away from family adventures back in 2011.

‘freddie reached the age of three, and he wasn’t at all keen on sitting in the pushchair for any length of time. everyone ended up frustrated so it got me thinking. there had to be a clever solution to this problem. I had the idea that riding a single wheel could be fun, simple and speedy,’ comments simon. he continues, ‘so I spent a saturday morning designing, drawing and inventing in our garage. after playing with materials that I had at hand (plywood, a clothes rail, a broom handle and a wheel ‘borrowed’ from freddie’s bike), I had a basic but functional prototype to test, and… the prototype worked! the gyroscopic effect of the wheel spinning counter-balanced the weight of the child and stabilises the unirider.

guardians can even jog with ‘unirider’ using one hand, with firm stability and manoeuvrability. and be safe, and ensure your child wears a safety helmet whilst active with the alternative unicycle. with transportation in mind, it only weighs 6.5 lbs, and measures 4 feet in total length, plus when disassembled, it can reduce to fit in a small suitcase.
