SPACE copenhagen has converted a former industrial warehouse into ‘restaurant 108’, a high-end eatery in the danish capital for chef rené redzepi. the design combines the building’s existing structural elements with bespoke furniture pieces that offer a distinct scandinavian style. ‘we wanted to keep the strong structural elements of the tall, light space, as well as reframe the existing beautiful material palette of concrete, bricks and dark metals,’ explain the designers.

SPACE copenhagen sought to incorporate a sense of vibrancy through splashes of color. seafoam green and midnight blue contrast and complement the use of red, seen across copenhagen in its façades, bricks, and roofs. ‘when working with the various functions of the project, we started using these selected areas as colorful features and accents weaving them into the naked spaces,’ continues SPACE copenhagen co-founder, signe bendslev henrikson.

restaurant 108’s furniture has also been designed by SPACE copenhagen, with their round accent tables serving as small islands dotted around the volume. other items include wardrobes in blackened steel, as well as wooden credenzas that function as waiting stations throughout the interior. suspended from the lofty ceilings, mouth-blown pendant lamps have been manufactured by bomma, design studio olgoj chorchoj. the restaurant’s woven chairs have been designed by jørgen bækmark.

long benches are created from a light solid oak, and barstools in a dark oak with blackened steel — both with carved detailing. the communal table, with its long benches, is also made from oak. located in an energetic area of copenhagen, ‘restaurant 108’ seats around 80 guests and includes a small bar serving coffee and wine.
