jacobsen arquitetura has completed ‘GAF house’, an L-shaped property clad with alternating timber panels that ensures privacy for a couple and their three children. located in são paulo, brazil, the dwelling’s living spaces on the ground floor remain open to a secluded yet spacious garden that captures sunlight throughout the day. the residence, photographed here by fernando guerra, also includes a square pool that reinforces the project’s strong geometry.

jacobsen arquitetura was tasked with creating a house that maximized its available footprint, with an internal program based on clear compartmentalization. consequently, the garage and service areas are situated underground, with living accommodation above at grade level. the uppermost storey contains the bedrooms, a family room, and an office.

at the front of the house, facing the road, the upper floor is set back to avoid a large two-storey façade facing the street. here, a covered pergola, which doubles as a porte-cochere for cars entering the garage, leads to the entrance. the upper storey is completely enveloped with a wooden skin of mobile and fixed panels structured within metallic frames. as well as lending the scheme a distinctive appearance, these panels ensure privacy, natural light, and ventilation.
