OFL installs zighizaghi, a multi-sensory urban garden in italy

the combination of geometry, nature, biology and design has been brought together to result in ‘zighizaghi’, a multi-sensory garden created in favara, italy designed by OFL architecture. social technologies, architecture, and vegetation turn the space into an intimate and regenerative setting that is equipped with an automatic irrigation system.

designed by italian firm OFL architecture, the public space was created in collaboration with furniture brand miliashop. wood and vegetation forms the platform influenced by the hexagonal pattern of honeycombs. the urban garden is made of two levels: the horizontal floor and the vertical lighting systems. the horizontal floor level was made of wooden elements made of phenolic plywood and knots of okoumè; the hexagon shape lending flexibility to configurations and modularity. meanwhile the vertical red prisms, are ‘super pods’ used as loudspeakers. a link back to the environment is achieved through the mediterranean plants integrated to further transform this external space into a dynamic environment where music acts as a vehicle between nature and visitors.

six fourteen-sided red prisms ‘super pods’ make up of a luminous body and a loudspeaker

inbetween the wooden elements, earth and plants have been planted

the wooden elements are made of phenolic plywood and knots of okoumè timber

honeycomb and bees were the main influence for the design
