office KGDVS presents corner chair for maniera at biennale interieur

biennale interieur 2016: brussels-based design initiative MANIERA has been asking for some years now architects and artists to create limited edition furniture. the idea is simple: since architects often have a close relationship with the visual arts, and artists are often inspired by the spatial environment, they are both able to crystallize these proximities into three-dimensional proposals. for this year’s biennale interieur, MANIERA invited office kersten geers david van severen to add an accompanying piece to the previously designed ‘solo chair‘ with an outcome called ‘corner chair’.

the result of this collaboration of the architects with MANIERA is the ‘corner chair’, a seating object that transports our thoughts immediately to a strong idea of architecture and most specifically, interiors. coated steel and leather were the materials chosen for its base — same as the previous solo chair. a massive back and armrest in burl, marble or cast resin — again — can serve as a small table.

office kersten geers david van severen is one of the most interesting and uncompromising young architectural practices at work today. it is renowned for its idiosyncratic architecture, in which utopian and non-realized projects are also customary. they do not invent architecture, but reflect and consider what architecture can signify and be today — reducing it to its bareness and essence. the firm’s architectonic ideas start from geometrical corrections and rather rigid classifications, in order to measure the world as it presents itself to us while allowing life to unfold in all its complexities.
